An interceptor is a pop-up that appears on your website and presents a message with a call to action that redirects to another page. Depending on your goal, you will present, on this page, a form (opt-in, update), an event, a survey or a page from your website (e.g. your online store).
Prerequisites
- Have the Grow or the Engage plan
- Configure the Journey module and the website to use
- Read The Secret of a Successful Pop-up
- Configure the content for redirect depending on the case (form, event, survey )
Step 1: Select the Content
Go to Acquisitions -> Interceptors and click sur Create an interceptor:
Name the interceptor (give it a name related to its purpose) and select the site where you want to display it:
Choose the content type that fits the goal of your interceptor (the call to action):
Depending on the type, you will have to choose, from a list, the form, the event or the survey (all hosted on DI) or to provide the redirect URL. In the interceptor, there is a button that is programmed to redirect to this content. After, click on Edition in the upper right to go to the next step.
Step 2: Edit the Interception Pop-up
Edit the content for the pop-up that will be displayed on your website:
Configure the formatting to have a good display: Add convincing content that is relevant to your goal: You can drag and drop content blocks (from the left panel to the center), then edit them.
Content | Description |
---|---|
Image | Insert your logo or any image related to the call to action. The image can be a maximum of 600px wide. Alt text is recommended in case the image is not displayed. Specify the alignment and the padding. |
Text | Explain the intention of the interception. Add style for the text and links and specify the padding. |
Button | This is a button to click that opens the opt-in form, the event registration or the survey, or to get redirected. Change the button text to indicate the call to action. Modify the button's style and positioning. |
Divider | Element to add a horizontal line. You can change the width, the color and the positioning. |
Click the eye in the upper right to preview the interceptor.
Click Display to continue to the next step.
Step 3: Define the Display Conditions
In Pages, select in which pages from your site you want to display the interceptor:
To display the interceptor on most pages with exceptions, select Block pages to indicate which pages to exclude. For example, you could exclude the opt-in form or the online store. Specify the pages to exclude by typing one page or section per line. Put the full URL, without parameters. You can use an * to represent all the sub-pages or sub-sections.
In the Timing section, specify the strategic moment to display the interceptor:
If you select 2 options, interception will occur only when both are met.
If you select none of the options, visitors will be intercepted when they access the set pages.
In Reccurence, indicate the display frequency:
In Visitors, indicate which visitor type you want to intercept (you can check both options):
Known visitors are contacts from your contact list in DI. If they click a link in a message you sent, their journey on your website will be tracked.
If you have not included a link to your website in a message, check Unknown visitors. Otherwise you won't have stats.
Step 4: Test the Interceptor
To see what the interceptor will look like on your website, click the Test button in the upper right. The site will open in another window during a test, outpassing some display rules. Just go to a page where the interceptor is programmed to display to see it. If you make changes, do another test to validate all is in order.
Step 5: Publish the interceptor
When your tests are done, click Publish in the upper right. You must then determine the period you want the interceptor to be online:
