Configuring a Scheduled Export

Although it is possible to export a contact list, individually and punctually, it can be useful to automatically export your list of contacts on a regular basis. For example, if you want to be certain that your data in Dialog Insight is always synchronized with the data in your other systems. That way, you're sure not to send messages to contacts who have unsubscribed, regardless of the system used.

Access path: Project → Data Management → Imports / Exports

Requirements

Depending on the destination to which you want to send your data, you must create the destination structure. You can use these 2 options (one per export task):

Step 1: Configure the Export Task

Follow the access path and click Export Automation:

In the export list, click Create an automatic export. Name the export task and Create. In the Configuration tab, there are several elements to configure. You must at least specify the destination and schedule.

Parameters
The export name is already set, but you could change it. You can also add a description :

Export destination
Select a destination (only one per task):You can choose a server or Google Big Query.

Options
You can edit the default options, such as the file production and the hashing algorithm for obfuscated fields.

If you want the exported file to be compressed or encrypted, you must also specify the type and/or provide the required keys, if you want data to be read and exported correctly.

In the same section, specify any special file transfer options:

  • By sending the file in 2 steps, you are making sure that the entire file is exported since the system generates two export files and compares them to make sure all has been transferred.
  • If you choose to submit a confirmation file, the system will create a file that contains information about the export. This file includes information you have requested and will be placed where it is indicated on the confirmation page.

Schedule
Specify the frequency and the time for the export:

Step 2: Define the Export Content

Note: You should know that columns are exported in the order they are displayed, which could change later. So if you exclude the header (or do not process column order dynamically), any change to the order of columns in the file will cause the export to fail.

Indicate the source for the export from the project (contact list, relational data tables or results from a query*):*At the moment, it's not possible to export results from a query to Google Big Query.

If you select the contact list, you can limit the export content to a group or targeting criteria (e.g. the city or the country).

Select project fields to include in the export data:

Note : For queries, the filtering criteria, as well as the list of fields to export, must be defined directly in the query.

You can code your values by obfuscation by clicking on the lock icon . By default, all the fields in the project or table are exported.

Info: Obscuration is a form of information blurring, which is intended to obscure the meaning that can be derived from a message or information. It may be intentional or unintentional, and may help to ensure the confidentiality or security of the information being transmitted.

Step 3: Specify Alerts

Yo you can add alerts for yourself or another user:

We advise you to put more than one person in case a user is no longer active.

Step 4: Launch a First Export

You can wait for the export at the scheduled time, but you could also launch a first manual export.

Select the task in the list and click Launch now:

Export History

In the History section, there is a list of all export executions, including the exported file name, the status and the file size.

Multiple functions are possible on this page:

  • View - To display details about a specific export execution, including its results and processing sequence.
  • Retry - To redo a specific export execution with the status of the file at this specific moment. This execution does not affect the regular export schedule.
  • Ignore - To remove a line from the list, for reducing the number of export executions in the history list.
